Microsoft's new system easier for browser switch
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp is developing a feature in its new operating system that allows users to turn off Internet Explorer and other key Microsoft programs.
The new feature is a major step for the world's largest software company, which has been accused by competitors and regulators of forcing consumers to run its own software, squeezing rivals' offerings out of the marketplace.
"In addition to the features that were already available to turn on or off in Windows Vista, we've added the following features to the list in Windows 7," said a Microsoft blog published on Friday, listing Internet Explorer 8, Windows Media Player and a host of other Microsoft programs.

turning-windows-features-on-or-off.aspx) was written by Jack May o, a manager in the team developing Microsoft's new Windows 7 operating system, which will replace the unpopular Vista early next year.
The new design will make it easier for users to remove any traces of Internet Explorer from their desktop, although the software will remain installed on the computer, and allow them to run other browsers more smoothly.
Last month Google Inc, which recently launched its own Chrome browser, joined the Mozilla foundation, producer of the Firefox Web browser, and Norway's Opera, in protesting Microsoft's dominance in the browser market.
In the past decade, Microsoft has fallen afoul of both U.S. and European antitrust regulators for bundling key programs with its operating system.

NASA planet hunter rockets into space
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – NASA's planet-hunting telescope, Kepler, rocketed into space Friday night on a historic voyage to track down other Earths in a faraway patch of the Milky Way galaxy.
It's the first mission capable of answering the age-old question: Are other worlds like ours out there?
Kepler, named after the German 17th century astrophysicist, set off on its unprecedented mission at 10:49 p.m., thundering into a clear sky embellished by a waxing moon.
"It was just magnificent. It looked like a star was being formed in the sky," said Bill Borucki, Kepler's principal scientist. "Everybody was delighted, everybody was screaming, 'Go Kepler!'"
Kepler's mission will last at least 3 1/2 years and cost $600 million.
The goal is to find, if they exist, Earth-like planets circling stars in the so-called habitable zone — orbits where liquid water could be present on the surface of the planets. That would mean there are lots of places out there for life to evolve, Borucki said.
On the other hand, "if we don't find any, it really means Earths are very rare, we might be the only extant life and, in fact, that will be the end of 'Star Trek.' "
Once it's settled into an Earth-trailing orbit around the sun, Kepler will stare nonstop at 100,000 stars near the Cygnus and Lyra constellations, between 600 and 3,000 light years away. The telescope will watch for any dimming, or winks, in the stellar brightness that might be caused by orbiting planets.
Astronomers already have found more than 300 planets orbiting other stars, but they're largely inhospitable gas giants like Jupiter. Kepler will be looking for smaller rocky planets akin to Earth.
Kepler is designed to find hundreds of Earth-like planets if they're common and, perhaps, dozens of them in the habitable zone, Borucki said. The telescope is so powerful that from space, NASA maintains, it could detect someone in a small town turning off a porch light at night.
It won't be looking for signs of life, though. That's for future spacecraft.
NASA was counting on a successful launch to offset the loss last week of the space agency's Orbiting Carbon Observatory. That environmental satellite ended up crashing into the Antarctic because of rocket failure. It was a different type of rocket than the one used for Kepler.
Everything seemed to go well with Kepler's launch.

SPEED UP FIREFOX
How to Speed-Up Your FireFox Browser's Loading Time
Open FireFox and in the address bar type "about:config" and hit enter (of course, don't use the ""). Now you will see a huge list of items.
Step 2:
You can either scroll down to the n's or just hit "n" on your keyboard and you should be taken to the first listed "n" item. Look for these three items:
a) network.http.pipelining
b) network.http.proxy.pipelining
c) network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
Step 3:
a) Set "network.http.pipelining" to True instead of False. You can do this by having it highlighted and hitting "Enter" on your keyboard.
b) Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to a number between 1 and 8, preferably 8. This will make the number you chose of requests at once instead of the default 4.
c) Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to True instead of False. You can do this also by having it highlighted and hitting "Enter" on your keyboard.
Your screen should now look similar to this:
Step 4:
a) Right-click anywhere on the page and select "New" then to "Integer" from the context menu.
b) Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to 0. This number is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on the information it receives.
Step 5:
YOU ARE DONE! Just start browsing and you'll see the difference! A secret step you can also take is to set "browser.turbo.enabled" to True instead of False.

1. The first step you need to do is to try determining when your computer became infected. Was your computer infected after you installed some software? Did you visit adult websites with porn content, that are infected with trojans or backdoors? Did your kids played with your computer and visited unknown sites with games? If you don't know what may caused computer infection, try to view history in your browser. Write down suspicious websites and then post it in this topic. "Infections" may be bundled with software, so before installing new software always visit Softpedia and view the ratings. You will notice if there are any red marks or warnings.
2. Second, you need to install or run some software, that scans for infections. Download SpyBot S&D. When you successfully installed SpyBot, update your detection rules by clicking Search for Updates. Scan your computer and delete any spyware / adware entry.
3. Download and run AdAware. Check for updates. Scan and remove possible adware entries.
4. Download a small but useful tool called HijackThis. BE CAREFUL with this program. Save and upload your scan log to HijackThis.de. Destroy possible bad entries.

6. Scan your computer with AntiVirus! (I prefer NOD32. This process may take a few hours, if you have a lot of files on your disk. Go watch TV or something).
7. Well, I just can't remove spyware / malware on my computer. What shall I do? This may sound noobish and cheap, but you can copy and paste the malware's name into Google. Click Search. I'm sure that you will locate loads of removal guides out there.
8. It's still not enough to scan just with antispyware programs. You have to scan your computer with some AntiVirus software. Check out NOD32 or Kaspersky antivirus
HOW TO AVOID INFECTIONS: Don't visit many porn sites or porn galleries. Don't download cracks or other similiar tools, if you're not sure, if they contain malware. Scan them with AntiVirus software before you use them. Don't click on Ads and don't visit URLs, that you have in your email folder. Scan your computer at least once a month and update protections / scanning software. Avoid *.BAT files. Download releases only from trusted sources! If you can, don't use key generators or cracks. Try to use serials instead in plain text files or in NFOs.
